Cost of college went up for all students at Inter American University of Puerto Rico-Arecibo

Tuition and fees rose 15.5 percent for 2017-18 at Inter American University of Puerto Rico-Arecibo, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Puerto Rico students paid $5,872 to attend the four-year private not-for-profit institution this year $790 more than the $5,082 charged for 2016-17.

Data shows 97 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 709 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.78 million and 17 students took out student loans totaling more than $60,864.

Including all undergraduates, 3,791 students used grants or scholarships totaling $22.59 million. Another 992 took out $4.06 million in federal student loans.
