72 percent of applicants to Michigan State University were admitted for fall 2017

At Michigan State University, 97 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 51 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in East Lansing enrolled 50,019 students in fall 2017, including 38,996 in undergraduate and 11,023 in graduate programs, data shows. 4.3 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

70 percent of undergraduates are residents of Michigan, and 16 percent are residents of other states. 14 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (67 percent) and Black or African American (7 percent).

The school admitted 72 percent of the 36,143 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 32 percent enrolled.
