70 percent of applicants to University of Rhode Island were admitted for fall 2017

At University of Rhode Island, 91 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 56 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Kingston enrolled 18,089 students in fall 2017, including 15,107 in undergraduate and 2,982 in graduate programs, data shows. 4.6 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

44 percent of undergraduates are residents of Rhode Island, and 55 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (71 percent) and Hispanic or Latino (10 percent).

The school admitted 70 percent of the 21,909 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 21 percent enrolled.
