Adelphi University issued the following announcement on March 25.
Greetings!
During the challenging and anxious days and weeks ahead, the support we give to one another and all those in our community is becoming more important than ever.
We’re living in historic times—times that call on each of us to think about those in our community who are in need of extra help.
We are especially committed to our current students. Our mission to provide them the help they need—to stay safe, stay strong and reach their academic goals—is stronger than ever. As you already know, to fulfill that mission, we have moved our students out of residential housing wherever possible, moved classes online and tried in every way we can to safeguard their well-being.
Yet many of our more vulnerable students are now facing unforeseen new challenges.
We are hearing about students who:
Can’t afford to travel home
Do not have a safe home to go to
Are not able to travel home to their families due to international status
Do not have a laptop or computer at home for online classes
Do not have internet access at their homes
Relied on an on-campus job for extra income
Given these sudden and critical needs, along with the recommendations for social distancing, we have postponed Giving Day 2020, One Day to Give, and instead are asking our generous and caring Adelphi family members to contribute directly to a new Student Emergency Support Fund. This new fund will address the immediate needs of students experiencing hardship as a result of COVID-19.
Make a Gift
With your generosity, we can act quickly to provide help to our vulnerable students during this crisis. Your donation will fund:
Travel—so that students can safely return home
IT support, including laptops and broadband internet
Unmet medical expenses
Meal money for students with food insecurity
Your gift to the Student Emergency Support Fund will help Adelphi students through the coronavirus crisis—and enable them to stay on track to graduate.
